Barriere is a district municipality located roughly 66 kilometers on the Yellowhead Highway #5 north of Kamloops, or a 45minute drive. Barriere has a small city centre consisting of basic shopping, medical and professional services, a few restaurants, building centre, Interior Savings Credit union and other smaller businesses. Barriere in known for its urban residential properties, rural acreages, lakes and world class recreational activities such as snowmobiling and ATV riding.

Barriere Schools
Barriere has Barriere Elementary School as well as Barriere Secondary School in the community servicing its students. Kamloops Open Online Learning (KOOL) offers online learning courses for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. The closest post-secondary school is Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops.
